| Custom Built vs Custom Fit - How are they different? "Custom built" is what original equipment manufacturers, "OEM's"(Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway, etc.) offer for custom clubs. They take their "off the rack, one size fits all" designs and rebuild them with a limited number of “custom” specifications, such as a different shaft (not fitted), a different shaft length, maybe adjust the lie angle. Let me guess, you are a "half inch over, 2* upright", am I close? That's the "generic" custom fit I often see from most of the OEM "so called" fitters! You may see an increased grip size, and maybe, just maybe, a decreased grip size. Many of them do not realize that one shaft company's stiff flex will feel like another company's X flex. What they do "NOT" do, is a precise measurement and alignment of the shaft spine for maximum performance and consistency, nor do they frequency match shafts to exact flex frequencies. Forget about moment of inertia, MOI matching. Do they maintain consistent distance gaps between clubs or do they align the shafts in the perfect Flat Line Oscillation position? I think not! The big chain store fitting processes are rarely as thorough and exacting as a fitting from a professional clubfitter like myself. Some may utilize impact tape, maybe test for good swingweight feel, maybe! Some may even make set make-up suggestions. Rather rare actually, unless they are getting a bonus for "pushing" a certain club or line of clubs that week. Big chain stores will cap their "fitters" to about 30 minutes to sell a club. There is no way I can get the required information to properly fit you in 30 minutes, not even close! All of the proper fitting techniques are an "everyday business norm", something you can always expect from Conquest Custom Golf! One of the most successful OED designers, Tom Wishon, is a technical writer for Golf Digest magazine and http://www.pga.com/home. He has designed equipment for many PGA golfers in including Payne Stewart. Tom invested over 300 hours to properly fit and build Payne's last set of clubs before we lost him in the plane crash. Tom’s designs have had many victories on the PGA Tour. SMT Golf has the winningest heads in Long Drive history! SMT Golf and AccuFLEX shafts were some of the components used for drives during two tour events, the Shell Houston Open in '04. Geek Golf just shattered all existing long drive records at a Harmon Tour event in '07, and dominated the ReMax Long Drive Competition in Mesquite, Nevada in '07 as well. I can fit almost any golfer with Infiniti clubs alone! You won't read about these feats of success in the Golf Magazines. Why would those magazines promote lines of equipment that cannot afford, and do not advertise with them with their $200,000 magazine ads? Who do you think pays for those ads? Those costs get passed on to you of course! Only after analyzing all of the data, and researching the various shaft and head combinations will I build the clubs to the correct specifications for your swing. You have input on your clubs, they are yours, however, if you request I do something that I absolutely know will not work for you, I will walk away from the business. My name and reputation go into your clubs. I will not risk it!
