Slicing Down the Fairway?

Are you finding that your ball flight consistently curves right (for
RH'd golfers)?  If you have an outside-to-inside swing compared
to the target plane, slicing the ball is probably an issue.  Slicing
occurs when the ball curves in a left-to-right motion across the
sky.  The reason for this type of trajectory is that the ball is
actually spinning in a clockwise direction.  The Response Offset
fairway woods are designed to “reset” your ball path making it
straighter and alleviating the sidespin that causes the ball to
deflect right.

When hitting with fairway woods, the key factors for keeping
your ball in play is launch angle and spin.  Both contribute to the
accuracy of your shot and your likelihood of making it to the
green faster.

The Root of Slicing

The swing path is the main contributor of the slice.  But if you
look closer, it’s actually the tangential force applied to the ball
that causes the clockwise spin.  If you have a slice that starts
out going right, then the club face may also be open (instead of
square) at impact.  This makes the launch point right from the
very beginning.

Changing your swing path to be more perpendicular to the
target plane is definitely one way to reduce slicing.  But due to
physical limitations this can sometimes be difficult for many
players, especially seniors and beginners.

The Benefit of Offset Woods

Launch angle, spin, and initial velocity are the three key factors
in your fairway play.  The Response Offset fairway woods can
greatly assist in improving the first two.  It can even improve
your ball speed for better distance.

The 4mm offset of the Response fairway woods “resets” your
ball path in the case of an outside to inside swing path,
effectively launching it straight towards the target.  Instead of
launching with a clockwise spin and towards the right of the
target, the impact happens closer to the center of the clubface
with less spin and a straighter trajectory.

Because the shot is launched straighter with less sidespin, less
energy is also dissipated at impact.  This “extra” energy is
transferred from the Response Offset fairway wood to the ball
making your shot not only straighter but longer.
