Alpha RX LowPro Fairway Wood

Straight and Narrow from the Tee

The fairway golf clubs also hit a great long shot off the
tee.  Professionals will often choose a wood over a driver
when sand or water narrows the driving zone.  Or when a
dogleg makes an accurate first shot more appealing than
trying to drive through trees.  And recreational golfers
find the fairways much more often when teeing off with a
3w or 5w.

The fairway woods offer greater control than drivers.  The
shorter shaft is easier to swing consistently.  And the
higher loft and resulting higher trajectory builds
confidence at the tee.  The Alpha RX Low Pro is much
straighter than a driver, especially on off-center hits.  The
high forgiveness is accomplished with a high moment of
inertia (MOI).

MOI is a measure of the resistance to club twisting on off-
center shots.  The club head twists when it makes contact
with the ball away from its axis of rotation.  Club heads
rotate around the center of gravity axis.  So resistance to
twisting is increased when there is more weight placed
away from the COG axis.  The RX Low Pro accomplishes
this through perimeter weighting and a wide body
construction that puts more mass towards the heel and
toe.

Airborne off the Turf

For par 5's and long par 4's, your 2nd shot off the turf or
fairway will require a good amount of yardage.  Getting
the ball airborne out of the turf can be a challenge in and
of itself.  The Alpha RX gets this shot high in the air with
ease.  2 design optimizations specifically help with this
challenging and crucial 2nd shot:

1) The center of gravity (COG) is purposely placed very
low in the club head through strategic weight
manipulation and distribution.  This enables the club
head's center of gravity to be below the ball's center of
gravity on impact.  This promotes the higher launch angle
and trajectory.  The low profile of the RX fairway wood
helps keep the COG of the club below that of the ball.  A
driver's face is too tall to accomplish this.  And an iron is
also challenging without taking a deep divot.

2) The sole of the RX is smooth and frictionless.  Woods
are swung with a sweeping motion, rather than a
descending motion for irons.  Woods are intended to
strike the ball at the bottom of the swing, rather than on
the upswing for drivers.  For these unique swing
characteristics, a smooth sole helps the wood slice
through the turf for solid contact with the ball.  No more
digging divots, especially on tight lies!

A Wood for all Fairways

Loft range of fairway golf clubs

The Alpha RX fairway golf clubs are one of the only
commercially available fairway wood sets that have the
full range of lofts.  Many recreational golfers replace their
driver and one of their long irons with the easier to hit
fairway woods.  5w, 7w, and 9w are becoming more and
more popular, while the 2, 3, and 4 irons are disappearing
from bags.  Golf instructors often recommend playing the
7w instead of the 3 iron, and the 9w instead of the 4 iron.

The lower center of gravity of fairway woods allows
designers to employ stronger lofts without compromising
trajectory. This translates to added distance over the
corresponding iron.

Beginner golfers can replace more than just their longest
irons with woods.  The 13w for example has a similar loft
to a 6-iron.  It is easier to hit, rivals the control and
precision of irons, and offers more distance.

Technology Points

• Forged steel face insert provide high strength-to-weight
ratios achieving greater ball velocity and solid feel at
impact

• Proprietary mass distribution produces a very high
moment of inertia for resistance to twisting on off center
impacts

• Optimum center of gravity location for higher launch
and optimum spin condition resulting in great forgiveness
and controllable soft landing shots

• Carefully crafted wide body construction creates easier
airborne launches, low backspin, and straighter and
longer shots
